While we advise clients nationally, we also carry out a 6 monthly survey of around 800 retail premises in Bath, where we are based, to monitor the vacancy rate.
In November 2019, the number of vacant shops rose from the previous survey in May to 66, or 8.4% of all shops within the survey area. This compares with a post SouthGate centre low of 43 shops, or 5.5%, in November 2013.
Bath’s vacancy rate is still less than the national average of around 10.3% according to the British Retail Consortium monitor. We were unable to complete any surveys during 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we plan to carry out our next survey in May 2021.
